Veronica T.

Private tutor in Binghamton, NY

Education

Sophomore, 3.2 GPA, Mechanical Engineering Major with a Chinese Minor at Binghamton University

Experience

As a foster child most of my tutoring experience comes from helping the other foster children in my group home with their school work, study for exams, and SAT review work. My SAT score was an 1860, A.P. Psychology score was 4, and my A.P. US History was a 4. I took an A.P. Global History class, but not the A.P. exam. During my freshman year, I took a pre-calculus course that had a great deal of trigonometry and algebra. I then proceeded to take calculus I and II. My grade for both calculus classes was a B-. I have taken two writing classes at the university. As a native Spanish speaker, I would be well capable of helping someone to learn the language and be understanding of the difficulties of learning English as a second language. I have a basic understanding of written and spoken Chinese, more specifically Mandarin. My reason for wanting to be a tutor is because there were many people who helped me to pass my classes and get into college. I want to be able to help someone who needs help just like i did. And because I like teaching and helping others.

Hobbies

I like reading, writing, and playing with some of the younger children. Most of my time, when not at school, is spent either reading or spending time with the other girls in my group home. My foster mother also spends some time helping us learn to cook and just find new reading material. My foster mother has 6 grandchildren and whenever they are over, I spend my time playing and entertaining them. During the school year, I call home and if the girls at the group home have any problems with their classwork or exam questions I help better understand. During breaks and home visits, I spend time helping the other girls learn the material they don't understand. During the school year, most of my time is spent either doing school work at the Library or helping another student at the Equal Opportunity Program Office, unofficially.
